Links/WikiMoon Web

We need to discuss a policy over external links and get this developed and posted ASAP. I knew this would be a problem, which is why I wanted to develop WikiMoon Web, but so far we haven't gotten around to that. Suggestions?--WikiSysop 07:53, 2 October 2006 (MST)

My personal opinion WRT external links in an article is that the link has to go to a site that contributes something worthwhile to that article, such as additional information, images, &c. If the site doesn't have very much information, is just a fanlisting, or is poorly designed and/or full of broken images and links, I don't see a reason to keep it. And also, I don't think the owner of a site should add it themselves (except possibly in the case of the proposed Wikimoon Web), because of the potential for abuse. --Kerochan no Miko 09:12, 2 October 2006 (MST)
Website authors not adding their own site is a must. We need to be a bit more specific on the rest. For me, the external links should be complimentary to an article, preferably something which was referenced for data. External links aren't necessary for most articles I don't think; Wikimoon web ought to make most of them obsolete.--WikiSysop 11:29, 2 October 2006 (MST)
To be honest, I like the idea of only linking to sites which were used as references; that would cut down on arguments over the validity and usefulness of a particular external link. Kerochan no Miko 11:37, 2 October 2006 (MST)
Right the goal would be reference links only, no external links in any of the WikiMoon articles. We'd set up sections in WikiMoon web for Myu links and PGSM links and fanshrines and whatnot, and people can go balls out on that stuff. The real question is, how do we set up WikiMoon web? Do we just create a category or should we put it as a separate namespace? And if we do a separate namespace, how do I even set that up?--WikiSysop 12:00, 2 October 2006 (MST)
I think right now we could just have a page with sections for general links, myu links, character shrine links...then once it starts to grow we could work from there. Or maybe I'm just envisioning it differently. Kerochan no Miko 12:24, 2 October 2006 (MST)
A master list on one page could work for the time being, eventually it'll have to be split up. I see various sections and subcategories such as fanfiction and whatnot popping up. The reason we'd want a separate namespace is we're going to permit people to make a page for their link (which would help with the categorizing), and we might not want that to be in the main namespace.--WikiSysop 12:38, 2 October 2006 (MST)
So are we looking at an address like web.wikimoon.org rather than wikimoon.org/web ? --GracieLizzie 14:17, 2 October 2006 (MST)
I was thinking along the lines of how the Anniversary files have their own namespace. http://www.wikimoon.org/index.php?title=WikiMoon:Anniversaries/October_5 So something like http://www.wikimoon.org/index.php?title=WikiMoon:Web/ and http://www.wikimoon.org/index.php?title=WikiMoon:Web/Anime

^ I completely support this policy for linkage. I'd already stated my position on it on the Talk: Petz page yesterday. And I've no specific opinions about how to set up the WikiMoon Web besides welcoming its creation. --210 17:59, 2 October 2006 (MST)

Rumours of my death have been wishful thinking. Sorry for my absence, and here's my opinion. I personally think we could aim for something akin to the Anime Web Turnpike, with sites categorised by type and subject... spanning multiple pages but not necessarily with a seperate page for each site. Don't know if/how this fits in with tghe consensus so far, but I'm pretty much prepared to go along with whatever we decide. dooky 10:51, 7 October 2006 (MST)
I'll support that. The question is, which one of us takes the plunge and sets that up? My only request is the separate namespace that I mentioned above.--WikiSysop 12:28, 7 October 2006 (MST)
I'll take the plunge. I should be able to whip up something similar to the Anime Web Turnpike using the seperate namespaces that Jay wants. I will add this to my list of interweb errands for when I wake up. If anyone can give me good ideas for directorys and links for each page and such, that would be great. Like, do we want sub-categories under anime, if so than what ones, etc. I'm up for setting up the framework for it, but I'll need suggestions on how we want to group everything there. --MarioKnight 01:36, 8 October 2006 (MST)
The Fansite page may help a bit. As for PGSM, I'd suggest the general, printmedia-centered, media-centered, actor/character-centered & others (just in case) categories. Just the 2 cents out of my head ATM. --210 04:21, 8 October 2006 (MST)
Ah, I completely forgot about that page. I can definetly draw up a good directory tree with that as a reference, thanx. ^_^ --MarioKnight 10:05, 8 October 2006 (MST)
Are we going to include fanlistings or not? Personally, I vote for "not", since all the ones I've seen are just a list of names and nothing really interesting or useful (unless you want to put your name on a list, that is). Kerochan no Miko 10:36, 8 October 2006 (MST)

^ I feel kinda dumb for asking, but what do you mean fanlistings? I don't think I've heard of such a thing. I'm guessing a listing of fans on a site or something? @_@; If my guess is right, then I vote no as well, but if I'm wrong then I hold my vote until I know what it really is. --MarioKnight 10:44, 8 October 2006 (MST)

I've heard about it before, but not familiar w/ it. Also guess it's sthg like that. If so, I also vote nay. --210 19:25, 8 October 2006 (MST)
Yes, it's pretty much what the name implies - a list of fans. Several of the external links that were added and removed lately were fanlistings, so I kind of want a policy regarding them. Kerochan no Miko 20:10, 8 October 2006 (MST)
Same goes for any other kind of clique/web rings. Those seem like the same thing. We don't want lists that link to lists, right?--Sakky 20:24, 8 October 2006 (MST)
Agreed. Link to pages, not lists of pages. Kerochan no Miko 21:56, 8 October 2006 (MST)

Why are the links am adding keep being deleted? What is wrong with them? And when will Wiki Moon Web be launched? What is it exactly?Neptunekh 15:42, 7 October 2006 (MST)

We dedcided that only sites used as references will be linked in the articles. The WikiMoon Web is going to be a sort of sub-project of the overall project, where people can add links to there own pages or their favourite pages. We're going to have the links separated into sections (for example one page for character shrines, another for image galleries and so on with subsections within those pages) and hopefully it should grow into an anime-turnpike like links list but exclusive to Sailormoon related sites. --GracieLizzie 16:20, 7 October 2006
Is it ok if an internet archive website is in WikiMoon Web because I know of a great Petz site but it can't exist without the internet archive link. Also, can anyone give a guess when the WikiMoon Web will launch and how will I hear about it? Could it take a year?Neptunekh 18:40, 7 October 2006 (MST)
I must reiterate my opinion that the site should actually exist in a current (and preferably currently maintained) state to be linked, and not just in a "hey, this site used to be here" sense. I've looked at that archived site and I don't see anything particularly special about it to make it an exception. Kerochan no Miko 19:05, 7 October 2006 (MST)

Well, I have one thing to say: If external links are longer needed, then I'm no longer needed. So, I bid so you all I goodbye.Neptunekh 19:18, 7 October 2006 (MST)

Adding Episode Images

How the freaking crap do you add images? Dr. Casey

Help yourself. 210 23:10, 7 September 2006 (MST)
Instructions for images are here. Simply add the URL of the image, no brackets. Oh, and no direct linking to webspace you don't own. By the way, use four tildes (~) to sign your comments. dooky 00:26, 8 September 2006 (MST)

Discussion Archiving

This page and the talk page for the main page are getting pretty long and it may be time for pruning. Is there a way to archive this stuff? Do we need to?--WikiSysop 19:31, 14 August 2006 (MST)

Actually I'm gonna talk about it this morning. I'm no Wiki expert, but is it possible to make it forum-like, i.e. titles w/ the latest input at the top? 210 19:40, 14 August 2006 (MST)
Not sure what you're asking regarding making if forum-like (the only way we could make new posts appear at the top would be to tell people to always post at the top, which would probably confuse people). Regarding archiving though... this can be done very easily. We actually have an archive system in place for old featured articles/episodes. I'll need to make some adjustments to make it work here though. Do you think we should archive after a set period of time, ie once a month? dooky 16:01, 16 August 2006 (MST)
I meant if someone add msg under title X, X would be automatically moved to the top together w/ all msg under it. But I guess this isn't technically feasible, but if archiving is possible, it's also good. And yes, msg under titles inactive for a certain period of time should be archived, w/ the exception of the "sticky"-labelled ones. 210 17:33, 16 August 2006 (MST)

Once a month archiving is fine.--WikiSysop 20:45, 16 August 2006 (MST)

As you can hopefully see, the system is now in action, her and on the Main Page's discussion page. I'll eventually introduce it for the Reference Desk too, but that's not so urgent right now.

PGSM Acts

All the PGSM pages need fixing. The episodes in PGSM do not have names. They are just Act whatever.

They do have names, which were revealed in the accompanying series guide. Scans of the book are available on this site. Also, please sign your comments using four tildes (~). dooky 16:31, 29 July 2006 (MST)
Still, these names were never presented onscreen, right? --Rosen 14:00, 3 August 2006 (MST)
No, but in line with our canon policy, any information provided in official guides should be taken as official (unless it contradicts something presented onscreen). It's a relatively common phenomenon for TV series to have named episodes, but for the names not to appear onscreen: take The Simpsons, for example. The problem with referring to the the episodes as "Act xx" is that many of the manga chapters are also referred to that way, so it's important to differentiate them as much as possible. dooky 14:53, 3 August 2006 (MST)

Introductions and Discussion

Introduce yourself if you'd like.--WikiSysop 04:33, 15 May 2006 (MST)

Should we maybe have some secton for discussing article ideas where someone can suggest article ideas they're not comfortable writing themselves or need further material they can't find? I've been having that problem sometimes... --Elfir 21:46, 16 May 2006 (MST)

Just write it here if you want. Or random song lyrics. Everybody was kung-fu fighting (hiyaa!)--WikiSysop 11:12, 18 May 2006 (MST)

So... think we should do something with the front page? It'd be nice to have weekly featured articles and the like eventually, but we're nowhere near that stage yet. So what should we do with it in the meantime? I'm as honest as the day is long. The longer the daylight, the less I do wrong. Dooky 15:13, 18 May 2006 (MST)

Some thoughts for articles:

  • Cross (symbols category)
  • The Simpsons cameo - for that episode when Lisa was dressed as Sailor Moon for whatever reason. I didn't see it, only saw screen shots, and googling for info only turns up very very disturbing images >_>

I've actually seen The Simpsons cameo. It's in my list of the many Sailor Moon cameos in anime and cartoons xD Can I make a Wiki page for that? I don't think they deserve a page for each one... You know, in each episode of The Simpsons, they make a different entrance. The SM cameo made by Lisa was just part of one of those special entrances, having everyone dressed as anime characters :D --Kasumi 0:01, 22 May 2006 (MST)

I'm off on holiday for week so I probably won't be able to help out till Sunday or Saturday at the soonest. Thought I'd let you know. GracieLizzie 15:27, 26 May 2006 (MST)

Well there is a wikipage for the Sailor Moon referance in One Week by Barenaked Ladies which if you ask me has about the same significance. So personally I think it merits a page. There are some screen caps over as the SOS. GracieLizzie 05:37, 22 May 2006 (MST)

I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help in the next month or so, the tour has got me running around all over Tokyo for trial runs. I was in Juuban today and will be back there tomorrow. I would like to launch this site by the end of the week, but I'd like for the 10 main senshi profiles to be started before I do so. (As of right now Uranus, Pluto, and Saturn are still left.) I can probably set the rest up if no one is willing but if anyone wants to give them a go, be my guest.--WikiSysop 12:05, 22 May 2006 (MST)

We need a copyright policy on this wiki. How should we licence this text? Should it go under the GNU Free Documentation License, a Creative Commons license, public domain, or full copyright? DENelson83 18:20, 25 May 2006 (MST)

Good question. I'm hesitant to make the policy myself since much of what's already up was contributed by dooky, but in the past I've been willing to permit people to use what they'd like to use permitted credit's been given to the authors. I'll leave the decision to whatever you guys think is the best system. Dooky?
In all honesty, I don't understand the ins and outs of these various licenses, but personally I've no problem with my contributions being public domain, or indeed whatever you want to choose. Creative Commons is the only one of these licenses I'm in any way familiar with, and that seems okay. Dooky 21:16, 25 May 2006 (MST)
Well, before this site is formally launched, a copyright policy needs to be officially adopted. DENelson83 00:46, 28 May 2006 (MST)
We are officially adopting Creative Commons, because I flipped a ten yen coin and it landed on heads the second time, and because that's just the way we roll here at da 'ikimoon.--WikiSysop 05:58, 28 May 2006 (MST)
Okay, so we're going to apply Creative Commons. But which specific licence? CC-BY, CC-BY-SA, or a different licence? DENelson83 17:27, 30 May 2006 (MST)
It's Creative Commons 2.5, or BY-NC-SA. I have it up and ready to go, I just need to figure out how to embed it into the site's code. Dooky 17:45, 30 May 2006 (MST)

Hi guys! I'm Sailor Universe, the owner of http://SuperSailorUniverse.com. Nice to meet you all!--Sailor Universe

Hi everyone, this is Sakura from SailorAstera.com. Happy to be here and help. ^_^ --Sakura

I'm a little late introducing myself, but here goes. I'm Danny Lilithborne, and have gone by various screen names in the past (but currently use JuJube for SM fandom). I'm not as huge a Sailormoon fan as I used to be (I have yet to purchase the SuperS box set, and right now I'm honestly more interested in Gash Bell), but I hope to at least contribute something useful here and there. The majority of my edits relate to seiyuu at the moment. Danny Lilithborne 18:08, 25 July 2006 (MST)

Hello, I'm Marjolein from the Netherlands. I own the website usagi.nl and hope to be able to make some contributions to WikiMoon. Marjolein 06:21, 27 August 2006 (MST)

Hey guys, just came across the site a few days ago (after actually thinking there should be a SM Wiki... not realizing there already was one!) Tons of stuff to do here, I'll try to contribute as much as I can before I start college in three weeks (and probably a bit more after that too). Anyway, I've been a big fan for a while now (although I suppose the way things are now it's hard to have only started being a fan), and on Wikipedia I've been known to make huge pages about very esoteric topics, so I hope I get the chance to do that here too! ^_^ PWMK2 02:27, 2 September 2006 (MST)

International Dubs

I'm Rosen, male, from Sweden, used to do fanart and hang out on a.f.s-m way back. Then Swedish SM fandom really woke up around '99; I felt I could make a better contribution on the local scene, so I kept my activities there for a few years.. Which brings up some questions of mine: What's WikiMoons policy on the international (non-Japanese and non-English) scene? I know that most visitors here will have started out with the DiC version - I've never seen it myself - so it's a good thing that its titles and voice actors are mentioned in the episode and character articles, the US premier dates are in the calendar, etc... but what about all other dubs out there? I'm not finding a word about them. Sure, my speciality the Swedish dub could only be seen in the Scandinavian countries, but others like the Italian or (in particular) the German dub really had an impact on SM fandom all around Europe. --Rosen 01:19, 4 August 2006 (MST)

Welcome to WikiMoon. We'd love to have more information on other dubs of the series. If you'd like to propose how we could integrate such information into WikiMoon, we're interested.--WikiSysop 01:33, 4 August 2006 (MST)
I guess one problem is that the amount of information on different dubs can vary a lot. Some come with detailed lists of air dates, voice actors, changes and trivia, while all that's known about some others is that they've existed (especially true for many Asian dubs, but some European ones as well). If, with time, one could collect reasonably detailed info about at least all the major language dubs, there would probably be reason to integrate them (listing various names in characters' articles, having categories like "Sailor Mars voice actors" and such). For the time being I'd say separate articles about them should suffice. A template for the purpose might help, and a category. --Rosen 02:50, 4 August 2006 (MST)
Welcome Rosen! I also think at this stage individual international users could contribute their articles on this subject. Tho I'd like to do it, I don't think I could as there're quite a number of diff. Chinese dubs, not to mention the diff. romanization sys of names &, of course, my own limited time. But I'd like to see such articles from other international users who could handle it. 210 03:48, 4 August 2006 (MST)
Well, some clarifications on the various Chinese dubs - how many there are, for one thing - would be a good start... (Btw, I have all of SuperS and the S movie in what I think is a Cantonese TV version; its opening song is (a dub of) the 'In Paris' version of Moonlight Densetsu.)
Here's an interesting resource: http://www.eternalsailormoon.org/world/index.html It contains scans of the Nakayoshi guide that mentioned the international dubs. It seems there might be three Chinese versions. There are definitely two Spanish versions, and the show has also found its way further afield via some of the dubbing countries. The description of the Turkish dub is reminiscent of the time I saw Slovenian Pokemon: they'd just got the American version and overdubbed the voices (so you could occasionally still hear the American voices in the background). dooky 05:53, 4 August 2006 (MST)
Hm, I didn't notice that, though I've seen a few episodes of Stars in Turkish. The show's onscreen title was given as "Ay Savasçisi" (with a hook under the middle 's' too, but I can't find anything like that on my keyboard). The Korean version seems really confusing... Anyway, I could put together a little something on the Swedish stuff (not in a hurry, though) just to get things started and to get some ideas on how to structure those things - one question is, what should I name such an article? --Rosen 13:30, 4 August 2006 (MST)
I'd go with something like "Sailor Moon in Sweden" or "The Sailor Moon anime in Sweden", depending on whether we have the manga and anime localisations separate. Best to name them on the basis of locale rather than language, given that (I believe) there are two Spanish versions (Latin America and Spain). The Chinese situation is still going to be tricky, though. dooky 15:02, 4 August 2006 (MST)
I think you should include the info on Dubs as you deem necessary. I have added a section on Zoisite based on the French Dub because they changedhis character slightly there, you could do similar things if they are relevant for now, until a system is sorted out for more...--Ohtori_akio 18:18, 4 August 2006 (MST)

^ According to the abovementioned site, there're 2 or 3 Cantonese dubs just in HK. FYI, Cantonese is 1 (tho a major 1) of the even-I-don't-know-how-many Chinese dialets, & HK is 1 (tho also a major 1) of the over-5-million-people cities in China. I also have no idea about the situation in Taiwan, Singapore, S.E. Asian Chinese communities large enough to have their own Chinese TV stations, etc. lol 210 06:44, 4 August 2006 (MST)

I noticed that now, there are articles dedicated to some international dubs ^^ I'd be glad to write about the Latin American version, but how should I call it? It's a Mexican dub, but I don't know enough about SM in Mexico to call it in that way :) I can gather some general information about SM in the different LA countries...SM in Latin America. Would it be OK like that? ^^--Kasumi

I don't see any problem w/ that at this stage. Should it become unwieldy some day in the future, we could always break it up into articles for individual L.A. countries. Other views? 210 00:26, 25 September 2006 (MST)

Potentially useful resource

(1)

I've just stumbled across what appears to be a Chinese-language Sailor Moon encyclopaedia at [1]. Why would a Chinese encyclopeadia be of any use, you ask? Well... It's a useful resource for finding the kanji for certain characters in SuperS and Stars. My source for the kanji you see in the character infoboxes is usually the Nakayoshi guides, but there were no such guides for SuperS and Stars. The credits are sometimes useful in this regard, but even they don't always list a full name. Of course, this begs the question of what the sources for these kanji actually are, but I guess they're better than nothing...

There is a very annoying feature on the pages that prevent you from highlighting or right-clicking anything. Obviously this would make copy-pasting a nightmare. Fortunately there are ways around this, but it's still a bit of a pain in the arse. Dooky 22:27, 23 June 2006 (MST)

Here's a Japanese PGSM link site I've been using for yrs. While some of the links lead to useful resources (e.g. Japanese names of cast, staff, locations, etc.), some are craps or even dead. It's still updating occasionally (just updated not long ago). Won't go into details here. Just explore yourselves (note the inclusion of some foreign sites like Genvid, Shingetsu, Sailorjupiter244's site, etc.).

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's been there for a while. I guess we could block the account, but it's never been used, and it's not actually possible (as far as I'm aware) to actually erase usernames. And to be honest we don't yet have a firm username policy. dooky 04:35, 1 August 2006 (MST)
Maybe that user has mistaken here as Uncyclopedia's Sailormoon page & then later got to the right place. lol 210 04:54, 1 August 2006 (MST)

Notable websites

I clipped the entirety of this section. Thank you everyone for your input, I've read it all and we've got it in the history. It's been most helpful in helping us decide what we should list in the WikiMoon Web section once we get that prepared.

I have to admit that I'm very concerned when it comes to deciding what's notable and what's not with fandom, because it's such a personal issue that people are opinionated on. Fandom is difficult territory for a Wiki, even Memory Alpha won't touch it.

We're entering new and different territory with WikiMoon web. It's something where I don't know if general wiki policy, which is to say letting anyone edit and vote, will work. Some of the most bitter discussion on the main Wikipedia page about Sailor Moon resulted from talks about websites, personalities, and fandom.

The goal with WikiMoon Web will be in line with general WikiMoon policy: to try to be fair to all sites. At the same time, we'll probably go with an editorial decision on what sites we list as notable and for what reasons, rather than the usual Wikiality method of any user voting. So for example, "Timmy's 1997 Geocities Page Featuring Hotlinked Sailor Mars Picz" isn't going to make the cut, but in contrast, SMUncensored has been linked to a lot throughout WikiMoon, and so would rank high on the WikiMoon web.

Odds are this criteria: whether the site is legitimately linked to a lot throughout the wiki (as a citation, as an external resource, etc.), will be one of the primary methods of judging notability. We will accept nominations for notability and investigate, because there are some sites which we probably won't link to a lot on the Wiki (Hitoshi Doi) but which are still very important.

Yes, this will result in bias on what's notable and what's not. But we will attempt to eliminate it to the extent we can, while simultaneously attempting to prevent the wiki from spiraling into flamewars.--WikiSysop 00:06, 4 August 2006 (MST)

Sailor Moon in Thailand

Whenever I try to read this page, my machine hangs up after only the title is displayed. I presume it's my own problem, but any ideas as for why? 210 21:43, 6 August 2006 (MST)

Amost certainly an encoding issue. The page uses Thai text. It displays fine for me without having to alter any settings, but since you're using a phone to view the site it's probably an unusual browser. Do you have the option of altering your encoding settings? dooky 22:03, 6 August 2006 (MST)
I've also guessed it might be due to the Thai txt, but my phone is an international 1 & can display Russian, Greek, alphabets w/ accents, Chinese, Japanese, etc. So I don't know why. As for altering the settings, of course my friendly sys admin won't allow it for security reasons. lol 210 22:16, 6 August 2006 (MST)
Works fine for me. All I can think is that the phone just can't render the Thai text - without knowing more about the device itself, not much I can suggest. Kerochan no Miko 22:22, 6 August 2006 (MST)
You could try looking at Thai Wikipedia and seeing if you can view that. On the other hand, Wikipedia does sometimes handle character encoding slightly differently than we do, so that still may not provide the answer. dooky 22:28, 6 August 2006 (MST)

^ I think I can draw the conclusion now after the following experiments:

  • Thai wiki - hangup
  • MSN Thai display option - hangup

There're many Thai maids here, I wonder if they'd fight for it like they did for their wages. lol And thx for your ideas. 210 23:01, 6 August 2006 (MST)

Sailor Moon Wiki

Hey, guys. I created a Sailor Moon wiki before you guys did, but mine was far less popular, I guess, and never really caught on (maybe because I kind of abandoned it). In any case, it's at [6], and you're free to take any of the material from there, what little there is. Most of it was written by me, although a user named Malkin has contributed substantial portions. (Perhaps if s/he doesn't already know about this wiki, you could let him/her know?) If it's a problem, though, I do intend to use some of my writing from the wiki in a Sailor Moon FAQ I'm creating (wish me luck, ha ha) so please let me know if there will be copyright issues with that. Thanks! --Purplefeltangel 03:49, 9 August 2006 (MST)

Sounds nice... but I'm just getting a "permission denied" when I try to go there. --Rosen 04:14, 9 August 2006 (MST)
Me too. ^^; 210 04:34, 9 August 2006 (MST)
Aaaah! I put .org instead of .com. All fixed now. Clicky clicky!! --Purplefeltangel 04:46, 9 August 2006 (MST)
(1) Your server is faster;
(2) But ads sux; ^^
(3) Somehow I hangup when I clicked "Recent changes";
(4) So I leave it to other users to explore it. ^^ 210 05:22, 9 August 2006 (MST)

AFD?

There are some pages, categories etc that I think really need to be deleted but aren't exactly esoteric. The categories I've just been marking with a notice that they should be deleted due to duplications, but the article Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon: The RPG in particular strikes me as unneccessary at this time -- if more information is coming soon, we should hold off on writing the article until there actually is any information. Is there an Articles for Deletion page, a la Wikipedia? If there is I can't find it. If there isn't, should we make one? --Purplefeltangel 09:47, 10 August 2006 (MST)

Regarding the use of the esoteric tag, I really need to come up with some rules for its usage. As for AFD... I'm not convinced that there is currently a requirement for it. Both the site and userbase are fairly small, and it's generally quite easy to bring these things to the attention of the mods. Voting on article deletions will be problematic since we have only a few regular contributors. dooky 10:04, 10 August 2006 (MST)
That makes sense. Could there even be a more generic "proposed deletion" template similar to the esoteric one but not only referring to esoteric articles? --Purplefeltangel 10:07, 10 August 2006 (MST)
If you're referring to articles that are basically there in error, we could certainly have a "speedy deletion" template similar to those on Wikipedia. The thing is - up until quite recently, a large percentage of the editing here was done by the admins, and it was quicker for us just to delete stuff that was totally without merit ourselves. I'll try and get a template made, though. dooky 10:20, 10 August 2006 (MST)
Thanks. Some of the pages that I think should be deleted aren't exactly made in error -- for example, the category "Princesses" which, to increase its scope, should be moved to "Royalty." (Oh, moving categories, how complicated thou art.) Any kind of deletion template would help though. --Purplefeltangel 10:26, 10 August 2006 (MST)

Anime images?

How come we don't have any good images of the Sailor Senshi from the anime? -- DENelson83 18:54, 14 August 2006 (MST)

I've added one or two from publicity stills &c, but I know that I haven't added a lot of images because I don't have DVDs to make screencaps. Kerochan no Miko 19:15, 14 August 2006 (MST)

Different names for related concepts

There are a few terms in Sailor Moon that are almost, but not quite, synonyms of each other. Phrases such as: Silver Millennium/Moon Kingdom/White Moon; Black Moon/Black Moon Clan/Dark Moon/Nemesis; Dead Moon/Dead Moon Circus and Sailor Senshi/Sailor Team. Some of these have their own nuances and are worthy, in my opinion, of separare articles. Any thoughts? Also, can someone please respond to my question on the Sailor Team talk page? dooky 16:37, 16 August 2006 (MST)

My thoughts: concepts not totally identical > separate, else redirect. As for your question, I'm not knowledgeable enough to answer it. ^^ 210 17:41, 16 August 2006 (MST)
Well I definately think Moon Kingdom and Silver Millenium warrant separate articles, as I feel they do have nuances - Moon Kingdom being the Kindgom of the Moon and the Silver Millenium being a utopian period of time with the Solar Systems political centre being the Moon Kingdom. Black Moon/Black Moon Clan/Nemisis is more difficult, as by Black Moon a user could be referring to either the Black Moon Clan (which I feel needs its own article) or the physical planet of Nemisis (which also needs its own article if you ask me) which could be fixed by putting Template:Disambig2 on one of these pages that we have "Black Moon" redirect to, but the question is which? GracieLizzie 02:40, 17 August 2006 (MST)
My own opinions on the names, for what it's worth...
"Silver Millennium", despite its misleading name, does actually refer to the kingdom itself, not the period of time in which it existed. In this sense they have the same meaning, but Moon Kingdom is also sometimes used to refer to today's Sailor Senshi, as a sort of 'alignment' description. "White Moon" is also used in this context, and would be a synonym except that it's a phrase mainly used by the Dead Moon, so it may be a term invented by Nehellenia. Pegasus uses it was well at one point, but you could argue that he's had plenty of contact with Nehellenia and has picked the phrase up.
"Black Moon" could mean "Black Moon Clan" or "Nemesis". A disambig page is probably in order for that one. "Dark Moon" is a less commonly used phrase, and is actually a translation - rather than "Daaku Muun" it was whatever Dark Moon is in Japanese, Kurotsuki or something. It appears to be a description of Nemesis, and may or may not be worth having as a redirect.
I think the situation with "Dead Moon" and "Dead Moon Circus" is a bit more clear cut. The Dead Moon was Nehellenia's kingdom and has also come to describe her alignment, in a similar way to moon Kingdom. The Dead Moon Circus was her method for transferring the kingdom to Erath... it was their cover, if you will.
Finally, my feelings on "Sailor Team" are clear. It refers to the five 'Inner Senshi' only and is never used within the series to refer to anyone else. The trouble with this is that it isn't easy to prove... but in episode 127, when the Inners are beng attacked by Rangy, Chibi Moon turns up and sayd "The Sailor Team are my dear friends! I won't let anyone go after their pure hearts!" Here, Chibi Moon is apparently excluding herself from the term 'Sailor Team' - she uses it to refer to the five of them only. You could say that she doesn't exclude Uranus and Neptune specifically, but if the term doesn't include her, why should it be assumed to include them? I get the feeling I'm not arguing this very well, but my main point remains - show me one example of the term being used to refer to anyone outsode the Inner Senshi.
Hey, I thought of another one. Pure Heart and Pure Heart Crystal. These are often used interchangably, but strictly speaking, the Pure Heart Crystal is the physical manifestation of the Pure Heart. dooky 08:39, 17 August 2006 (MST)
On Silver Millenium/Moon Kingdom thing, I get that Silver Millenium doesn't refer to a period time but I have been under (the perhaps incorrect) impression that Moon Kingdom strictly refers to the ancient kingdom of the Moon whereas Silver Millenium refers to the utopiean political alliance of the solar system (except for Earth, in the manga) at that time which was ruled by the Moon Kingdom. GracieLizzie 12:37, 17 August 2006 (MST)
Well, that's a tricky one, since I really only specialise in the anime, which never mentions much of the ancient colonisation of the solar system (it's briefly hinted at in S, I think). But to be honest, given that the Inner Senshi (who were the princesses of their respective planets, remember) served Princess Serenity, I'd always assumed that the Moon Kingdom basically controlled the Solar System... so in that sense, Moon Kingdom and Silver Millennium would still be interchangeable. dooky 13:23, 17 August 2006 (MST)
A wee side note I've been kinda wondering about for years; doesn't that make the Moon Kingdom an empire? "Empress Serenity" doesn't sound quite as romantic, but... o_0 --Rosen 13:43, 17 August 2006 (MST)

^ Queen Victoria also assumed the title of the "Empress of India" - does it help for your question? 210 16:52, 17 August 2006 (MST)

Holy Blade or Silver Crystal Sword?

This item (the sword made out of Silver Crystal that Venus kills Beryl with in the manga) seems to have two names - the "Sword of the Phantom Silver Crystal" and the "Holy Blade"[7]. Which should we go with? Personally I think "Sword of the Phantom Silver Crystal" is a bit long and prefer "Holy Blade". I am not actual sure if "Sword of the Phantom Silver Crystal" is actually a name, description, or subtitle or if it is the other way around and "Holy Blade" is a subtitle... any thoughts? --GracieLizzie 08:27, 30 September 2006 (MST)

What did they call it in PGSM? Anyone know? Kerochan no Miko 09:16, 30 September 2006 (MST)

Image caption box thingies

Alright, I have no idea what to call them... But basically

<Image goes here>
These thingies

I just want to know what colour they should be. I remember somebody told me that they should be the same colour as the template on that page, but at the moment we have a lot of pages where it's not the template colour, and we even have pages where two different colours are used at once, for example Sailor Star Fighter and Sailor Star Healer. What should be done with them? And also, what about the pages without any templates? I'm sincerely confused about this. Elanorea 04:29, 19 August 2006 (MST)

Maybe we could just have a universal color convention for all these "thingies", using a more neutral light color, such as light grey, etc.? 210 04:47, 19 August 2006 (MST)
Well, I've seen both #ffcccc and #cccccc used around pretty much. I have no idea where the first one comes from, since AFAIK it's not a template colour. Personally, I have no problem with using either of them, or the template colour (though that leaves us the problem of non-template'd pages), I just think we should have some kind of colour convention so that they're not different on every page. Elanorea 05:23, 19 August 2006 (MST)
Yeah, consistency is important. What are other users' views? 210 05:43, 19 August 2006 (MST)
Originally, they all used #ffcccc. Recently, some people have been using other colours. I'd rather stick to the original colour myself although it didn't seem worth complaining about. dooky 06:33, 19 August 2006 (MST)

^ So actually it has a color convention for all to stick to. All the questions have been answered then. 210 07:12, 19 August 2006 (MST)

Actually I was pretty sure it was dooky who told me about the template colours, but I guess I was wrong, heh. Anyway, I guess we better start recoloring the... thingies... for lack of a better name ^^; Elanorea 08:09, 19 August 2006 (MST)
Personally, I'd prefer not to have any color in the caption boxes at all. Kerochan no Miko 14:09, 19 August 2006 (MST)
I see your point. I originally added the ffcccc colour as I thought it was fairly inoffensive and close to being white... alas, that was on a monitor with knackered contrast, and looking now it's a bit brighter than I intended. I worry that leaving it white make it look a little unfinished and skeletal though... dooky 16:21, 19 August 2006 (MST)
It would look a little bland if it were plain white, but the color isn't the nicest, and especially when it's close to one of the (extremely vivid) infoboxes it tends to look strange. Kerochan no Miko 22:29, 19 August 2006 (MST)

^ Agreed. I suggest to tone it down to make it look lighter & more neutral. 210 22:51, 19 August 2006 (MST)

You know, I have made a template for this thing; it's at Template:Captioned image. -- DENelson83 21:05, 19 August 2006 (MST)

Ah, the "thingie" template. *sigh* BTW, anyone having watched the classic horror film The Thing? lol 210 22:17, 19 August 2006 (MST)
Well, I guess I could change its name to Template:Thingie, if that's what you want. *shrugs* -- DENelson83 22:45, 19 August 2006 (MST)
Ask Elanorea. lol 210 22:56, 19 August 2006 (MST)

PGSM Pics Wanted

The PGSM episode articles need pics. If you have DVD-quality caps, you're most welcome to add them into the articles. 210 23:19, 23 August 2006 (MST)
Moved here by dooky 23:45, 23 August 2006 (MST)

I've made some screenshots using the PGSM DVD's and resized them to match the anime episode screenshots (238x178 pixels). I hope that's OK. Marjolein 11:25, 27 August 2006 (MST)
Thank you very much, Marjolein! They're nice! ^^ 210 22:56, 27 August 2006 (MST)

BUMP. Anyone? ^^; 210 04:37, 26 September 2006 (MST)

Well the Sailor V article could do with a nice scan or screencap. GracieLizzie 08:44, 26 September 2006 (MST)
Yeah, that's good enough. So if anyone got DVD-quality caps, that's good. But pics of the quality of the PGSM Sailor V one are also fine. 210 04:35, 27 September 2006 (MST)

Anime transformations

You know, the three transformation sequences of each of Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Venus at each level look exactly the same, except for the ending frames. Their first transformation sequences end with a plain background, the second with their planetary symbols in the background, and the third with their attack symbols behind them. -- DENelson83 19:00, 25 August 2006 (MST)

Agreed (& the fuku change in SuperS), but so...? 210 19:20, 25 August 2006 (MST)
So, I think the articles for those transformations should show the final frames of their video sequences, so we can clearly determine which command is being used. -- DENelson83 20:29, 25 August 2006 (MST)
So should we replace the Outer Senshi transformations with their end poses as well? Kerochan no Miko 20:56, 25 August 2006 (MST)
Do they look alike in S and Stars, except for the final frames? -- DENelson83 22:39, 25 August 2006 (MST)
IIRC, they look alike including the final frames. I'll have to check. Kerochan no Miko 23:06, 25 August 2006 (MST)
The Outer Senshi only have one transformation sequence each (apart from Saturn, whoe doesn't have any). The last time Uranus and Neptune transform on-screen is episode 167, before they get their Super forms. dooky 23:40, 25 August 2006 (MST)
Personally, I am against this because I think it looks really dull and boring. The mid-sequence stills look so much nicer. GracieLizzie 03:49, 28 August 2006 (MST)
I think mid-sequence stills look nicer for all of them, but I like having consistency. Kerochan no Miko 11:53, 28 August 2006 (MST)
I know, and I agree it's not a really big deal or anything I just thought I aught to state my preference. GracieLizzie 02:38, 29 August 2006 (MST)

Unprotection

But the Sailormoon today box on the front page is still dated Aug. 31 - unprotect it so early (remember the time diff. in the "Recent Changes" list? See "Sys Clock" above)? 210 22:38, 31 August 2006 (MST)

Yeah, you have a point, but it'd be a very keen vandal indeed who'd take advantage of a brief window of opportunity like this. We really do need to fugure out if this system clock issue can be resolved... dooky 22:41, 31 August 2006 (MST)

Countries referenced in Sailor Moon

I remember a fun section in Lunar Archivist's old FAQ dealing with the real and fake countries that exist within Sailor Moon. This could be the basis for a good article, I think.

The countries listed by Lunar Archivist on his page are "United States of America, Russia, England, France, Japan, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, and Brazil". Quite a few of these are included based on an anime screenshot featuring various international flags (Don't know the origin of this, unfortunately). So... we'll need to figure out what criteria should be used to decide if a country is worth including. Obviously if it's mentioned, it goes in. I would also suggest that a city/place within a country being mentioned is also enough (see Kenya below). However, I'm not sure if the existence of a person/thing from a specific country should be enough to prove its existence. I mean, Martina Navratilova exists within the Sailor Moon universe, but does that mean that Czechoslovakia also did? (Although it's different if it's a thing that contains the name of the country, such as French dolls or Korean barbecue, since this counts as a direct mention) As for the flags... I don't know about them either.

Anyway, here's my list so far (with references). Add any other countries you can think of. I'm bound to have missed a few.

  • Japan: Uh... let me see now...
  • USA: Mamoru intends to go there during Stars. Also the home of Doctor Gia.
  • UK: Sailor V was there for a while.
  • France: Mentioned in episode 18, with the talk of French dolls.
  • Germany: Ami considers going there in episode 62.
  • Switzerland: Yuiichirou's parents abscond there in episode 38.
  • Korea: Strictly speaking an area and not a country, I know, but we know it exists thanks to the Korean barbecue in the SuperS special.
  • Libya: Mentioned in the Stars manga, as Nyanko Suzu's supposed place of origin.
  • Romania: Must exist in the Myu universe(s), since the Senshi visit Transylvania, an area within Romania.
  • Kenya: The capital of Kenya, Nairobi, is the destination of Reika's flight in episode 29. Kenya might be the desert area shown in episode 41, but we don't know if Reika was actually going to Kenya, or was just catching a connecting flight from there to somewhere else in Africa.
  • Italy: Mentioned in the final Chibiusa picture Diary as the origin of Gucci.
  • Greece: Visited in the Sailor V manga.
  • China: Visited in the Sailor V manga.
  • Russia: Wataru is sent to Siberia in the Sailor V manga.

dooky 23:42, 31 August 2006 (MST)

A good article as well as a good category, I think. And don't forget the fictional "Estoa" & London references in PGSM, as I recall ATM. 210 00:01, 1 September 2006 (MST)
There are various fictional countries... the anime has the Diamond Kingdom and Amethyst Kingdom, plus the Ivanovitch Kingdom (not actually a real country; Usagi made it up). The manga has some odd-named countries like D Kingdom and U Kingdom. (I just remembered some more real countries too, which I've added to the list). dooky 00:23, 1 September 2006 (MST)
Another referance to the USA was in Codename: Sailor V, Minako was supposed to go to Hawaii... she actually ended up in Greece by mistake. Oh, and I just remembered Toshio Wakagi was stationed in Siberia at one point. GracieLizzie 06:12, 1 September 2006 (MST)
Ah I see you have the Siberia thing list already, oops. GracieLizzie 06:18, 1 September 2006 (MST)
It's too bad the Senshi have never heard of Canada... And Estoa? You think they were really referring to Estonia? -- DENelson83 08:43, 1 September 2006 (MST)

^ No idea. Just my speculation. 210 19:51, 1 September 2006 (MST)

Next episode previews

Having looked in various series guides, it seems a popular thing is to transcribe the opening/next episode previews (I've seen it in both the anime and PGSM guides). It's also a fact that these were all cut from the English language releases of the anime. So... why not include them in the articles? If I go back to my old RM files, I have access to almost all of them (the exception being about 10 or so from R where the intros and outros weren't subbed. So how about adding them to the articles? Some of them were pretty funny. We could potentially add the intros as well, although this is less urgent as people are more likely to have seen them. Thoughts? dooky 04:56, 1 September 2006 (MST)

Not much thoughts ATM. Just to say it's a good idea, & the PGSM ones are also less urgent as everyone has seen them. 210 05:16, 1 September 2006 (MST)
Personally, I never watch the next episode previews or really care... Kerochan no Miko 07:17, 1 September 2006 (MST)
I've been transcribing some of these with a view to possibly including them. The first season ones are really interesting because they're all dialogues between Usagi and Luna... in later seasons you forget how much of the show used to be based around their interactions. Most of the previews seem to involve them hurling insults at each other, or Usagi annoying Luna in some way. And the preview at the end of ep 22 is priceless for Luna's impersonation of Nephrite... "Usagi no Energy Level... Peak!" dooky 22:10, 2 September 2006 (MST)
One of Luna's best quotes was that early episode with the gym where she was saying something along the lines of, "One bun for one kilo, two buns for two kilos, and three buns makes Usagi fat" and holds up a crude drawing of Sailor Tubby.--WikiSysop 06:46, 3 September 2006 (MST)
Oh, I remember this tidbit after all these yrs. Maybe because of that drawing generating a very good graphic memory. 210 07:49, 3 September 2006 (MST)

Image uploads

I wonder if we should have a page where people can post that they've uploaded an image and it needs to be transferred. This way we can keep track of those things.--WikiSysop 08:33, 6 September 2006 (MST)

Yeah, sthg like an "Upload Image Request" page listed in the toolbox at the left. 210 18:45, 6 September 2006 (MST)
I try to watch and get them as they're uploaded, but I know there are many out there that I haven't found yet... Kerochan no Miko 19:25, 6 September 2006 (MST)
I would be completely for that. I have quite a few images I plan on putting up soon and I know it shouldn't the job of the admins to be going around searching for every uploaded image. PWMK2 13:26, 7 September 2006 (MST)
I have image upload privileges, and I'm not an admin, but nevertheless, we should have such a feature, as that which Wikipedia has. -- DENelson83 16:14, 7 September 2006 (MST)

If people want to note they need an image uploaded, could they just mention it on the talk page for WikiMoon:Images? Kerochan no Miko 15:25, 1 October 2006 (MST)

Saturn Planet Power, Make Up

Hi, this is Sailor Earth Hippy, and I just wrote the Saturn Planet Power, Make Up article because ther wasn't one. I hope it is OK, and also I need some advice on whether it is worth it or not. Because it hardly exsists. If you need to edit it go ahead, buit keep the sequence details please. I didn't bother making a stats chart at the top of the page because there is not enough information.

For consistancy I've added a stats chart and I've also added what game it appeared in and tweaked it here and there. It was a very good description but it would have helped if you had linked words like Sailor Saturn and such. GracieLizzie 02:42, 7 September 2006 (MST)
Is that command even applicable? Saturn never transformed on screen in the anime, but only in a video game. -- DENelson83 16:15, 7 September 2006 (MST)
Games have a valid canon of their own, I see no reason not to have it. Kerochan no Miko 16:54, 7 September 2006 (MST)
Hotaru does transform on screen in Sailor Stars doesn't she? I can't recall a specific ep. where we actually see it but I know she turns into Saturn in several eps.
She appears as Sailor Saturn a number of times, but she's never shown transforming. Kerochan no Miko 14:27, 12 September 2006 (MST)

^ And my regret for that! 210 17:57, 12 September 2006 (MST)

Image Upload

Can someone upload the images in this zip file? It contains 5 original seiyu headshots and various myu images. Should be 20 pics. --Kuroyanagi 17:51, 29 September 2006 (MST)

If you will upload the images to imageshack and add them to the appropriate articles so I know where they go, I will happily move them to wikimoon's server. Kerochan no Miko 18:26, 29 September 2006 (MST)

Imageshack and my browser don't get along. Can someone please upload these images. I'll add them to pages myself. --Kuroyanagi 19:20, 29 September 2006 (MST)

Page Guide:

The images in that zip file have not been resized/prepared to be put on the site. Kerochan no Miko 09:46, 1 October 2006 (MST)
Except for one that I forgot to resize, these were all pre-sized to be a standard 200px width. There's one horizonatal picture that I made 200px legnth. That's similar to of most pictures in articles on this wiki. --Kuroyanagi 10:29, 1 October 2006 (MST)
The sizes for images vary according to the article in question; images for characters or people seem to be about 190-200 px tall and varying width. I looked at a couple of the images in that zip file and they weren't in that range, and they also weren't cropped. Kerochan no Miko 10:36, 1 October 2006 (MST)
Where does it say that sizes for images vary according to the article? Check the sizes again. With the exception of two images, they are all 200 width and have variable heights. "Sakuraddo" is horizontal and very busy early 1990's set for the variety show, if it were reduced to 200w it would be useless. I neglected to resize the "Vampir cartoon" file. They are all cropped down from the originals scans. Could they be further cropped? Yes. Would cropping make any substantive difference to the content of the image? Not really. --Kuroyanagi 11:22, 1 October 2006 (MST)
It doesn't "say" it anywhere, just look at the images in the articles. Yes, some of the images need to be cropped to look good in the articles. I'm really getting sick of Kerochan no Miko deleting links whenever I post them there. If she has a problem with me then I'll leave WikiMoon and no one will have to worry about me anymore. Neptunekh 14:38, 6 October 2006 (MST)

As I said in the edit notes, I removed the external links from all the character articles I found so far, as per the discussion on this page regarding external links, and because nobody objected. If you have input regarding external links in character articles, please feel free to join in the discussion instead of automatically assuming I have some personal issues with you. Well, I object. I have a huge problem with deleting links for no reason. What is wrong with them? And what dicussion about me join are you talking about? Where is this discussion? Neptunekh 17:29, 6 October 2006 (MST)

Neptunekh, if you wanna discuss this issue, pls go here. It's actually the top section on this same page. And pls don't speculate on anyone's underlying intention, as I don't think this is very meaningful here where we're working to hammer out a Sailor Moon online encyclopedia. We could have jokes or whatnot, but we're actually like colleagues at work. Friends yeah we are, but this isn't ICQ. At least that's what I think. --210 18:50, 6 October 2006 (MST)
Ah, when the WikiMoon Web is launched, you could put fansite links there. ^^ --210 18:56, 6 October 2006 (MST)

What are you talking about? What is WikiMoon Web? And when will it be launched?Neptunekh 15:39, 7 October 2006 (MST)

Pls use ":"s at the beginning of your comments for indentation. Gracie has already answered your question at the top section here. There's no specific launch date, but I guess someone will start to do it once a consensus on the how-to is reached. So be patient. ^^ --210 17:17, 7 October 2006 (MST)
