The dub was based on the German dub, so most of the German character names and the changes made to the storyline were also present, and the lyrics of the opening theme song, "Zeg het Toverwoord," were an almost-literal translation of "Sag das Zauberwort," the first German opening song. The localized ending was shown only on Boemerang, due to Yorin cutting it, and it featured a Dutch-translated version of the German ending sequence, which played along with an instrumental version of the opening theme song.

Sailor Moon in The Netherlands refers to the Dutch dub of the Sailor Moon anime which aired in the Netherlands and the Flanders region of Belgium under the title Sailor Moon - Het meisje met de macht van de Maannevel (Sailor Moon - The girl with the power of the Moon Nebula).

Anime[edit]

Translation and Channels[edit]

The first 52 episodes were dubbed by the studio Wim Pel Productions B.V., and premiered on Dutch television on September 3, 2002 on the Dutch channel Yorin (now RTL7), where it continued to air until January 2004. Every dubbed episode was broadcast, and there were several reruns on Boemerang. Only 26 episodes were shown in Belgium and in later reruns in The Netherlands, due to the rights having expired.

Censorship and Changes[edit]

The only major change made in the Dutch dub was altering Zoisite's gender from male to female.

The insert songs "Tsukini Kawatte Oshioki yo," "Maboroshi no Ginzuishou," "Yume Miru Dakeja Dame," "Moonlight Densetsu," and You're Just My Love," from episodes 21, 34, 40, and 46, respectively, were left in Japanese, as opposed to the German dub, which replaced them with instrumental versions or removed them entirely. "Anata no Sei Janai" in episode 49 was dubbed into Dutch and was sung by Manon Ros, Makoto's voice actress, and in episode 7 "Moonlight Densetsu" was sung by the voice actresses for Bunny and Naru. Some episodes lacked the eyecatches.

Otherwise only minor changes were made, mainly based on those in the German dub.

 • When episode 22 aired in Belgium, the original Dutch title of the episode, "Bunny's eerste Kus" (Bunny's first kiss), was changed to "Het Gemaskerd Bal" (The Masked Ball).
 • Although the eyecatches were omitted from some episodes, sometimes the music from them was still audible.
