Kurume Suri was a boy who appeared in the Ami's First Love anime special episode and manga side story. He got good results in many practice exams, under the pen name "Mercurius", and Ami Mizuno considered him a rival. He wore thick, square-shaped glasses, and looked similar to Umino.
Notes
- Kurume Suri's names contain a number of puns; the most well known is that his pen name is written the same way that the Latin word "mercurius" (which means "Mercury") is written in katakana. This is the reason for Ami's obsession with beating him, and why she believed he was an enemy targeting her, whereas in truth it was merely a play on the sounds of his own name. His real name contains another pun in that his family name, Suri (数理), is written with the kanji for "mathematics."
- In the banned Pokémon episode Dennō Senshi Porygon, Professor Akihabara´s apareance is similar to Kurume´s. They both share a similar hairstyle and color and both glasses has swirls
