Background music, often abbreviated as BGM, refers to incidental music which plays in the background of a television show. It is often used to convey emotion in a scene. In the Sailor Moon anime, almost all of the background music was composed by Takanori Arisawa. In Sailor Moon Crystal, all of the background music was composed by Yasuharu Takanashi.

In DiC's version of the English dub, the background music was replaced with new computer-generated music. When Cloverway dubbed the anime, they kept the original music.
