Talk:Shin

According to the TV-N sub, his name was "Ichiou" as in 一往, but sailordream.com gives the 一王 spelling. I'm more inclined to trust the latter, as TV-N has had some other translation issues in the past, but the emphasis he gave the word in the episode makes it seem like he was saying it was "just for now." So perhaps it's just a pun on the "one king" meaning? Kerochan no Miko 21:11, 8 March 2007 (MST)

Actually I wasn't aware that he's got a last name when I added "Shin" into the cast list of the PGSM page. It was Gracie (?) who added his last name there. So I've no idea which spelling is correct, but 一往 involves a more abstract concept than the other one, making it less likely to be a family name according to my experience & knowledge about how a bulk of Japanese family names suddenly came into being back in the Meiji Period. --210 21:48, 8 March 2007 (MST)
Well, considering that he didn't remember anything about himself and probably made the name up, it seems entirely likely to me that he wasn't picking an actual surname... Kerochan no Miko 22:04, 8 March 2007 (MST)
That could be another possibility you never know, but if he did make it up, he should have picked a common name that 1st came to his mind, not the obscure "一往" (actually I doubt if it's a surname at all, but I haven't checked). --210 22:35, 8 March 2007 (MST)
Yes, but I'm not sure that it was intended to be a surname. As I mentioned, when he's talking in the episode his voice inflection sounds like he could very well be saying, "My name is Shin, for now (because I don't know any better)." Kerochan no Miko 22:42, 8 March 2007 (MST)
That could also be a possible scenario, &, similar to the "Komatsu lived in S. America" thing, I've actually never seen "Ichiou" in the Japanese sources that I've come across w/. --210 23:10, 8 March 2007 (MST)
Unless anyone objects here, I'm going to remove the "Ichiou" part and just call him "Shin". Kerochan no Miko 09:51, 9 March 2007 (MST)

^ No objection - actually you've got my support here. --210 18:11, 9 March 2007 (MST)
