The Shape Ray

The Shape Ray (シェイプ光線 / Sheipu Kousen) was a pod-like machine used by the Shapelin gym in episode four of the Sailor Moon anime. It was a part of an energy-draining plot formulated by Jadeite. With the enticing promise of quick weight loss, victims would step into the pods where their energy would be drained. While the victims did lose weight, after a few “treatments” they also lost all of their energy, drained to the point of death.

Known victims of the Shape Ray included Naru Osaka, Haruna Sakurada, and two of Usagi's unnamed classmates.

Trivia

• Devices similiar to the Shape Ray also appeared in chapter 9 of Codename: Sailor V, "Sailor V vs deVleene!."

• In the first English dub they were called "Relaxation Pods," while in the English-language novels published by TokyoPop, they were called "Shape Sun Salon" beds.
