Crescent Beam was the first attack used by Sailor V in Codename: Sailor V. It was also used by Sailor Venus in the Sailor Moon anime, musicals, and video games.

Anime[edit]

Crescent Beam was the first of Sailor Venus' many attacks in the Sailor Moon anime. She first used it in episode 33 in order to give Tuxedo Mask a chance to escape from Zoisite's attack. Later in the episode she used Crescent Beam again to break Kunzite's forcefield, saving Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, and Sailor Jupiter.

When Sailor Venus performed this attack in the anime, two crescent moons collided above her head before she raised her right index finger up to touch them. She then lowered her right arm to point at her target as her left hand came to rest against her elbow, then shot a beam of light from her index finger.

This attack was later upgraded to Crescent Beam Shower.

Manga[edit]

Crescent Beam in Sailor V

Crescent Beam first appeared in the first act of the Codename: Sailor V manga, "The Birth of Sailor V!". After she caught Narkissos, a member of the Dark Agency, hypnotizing a fellow student named Haneda as part of his efforts to turn young girls into his slaves, Minako Aino transformed into Sailor V. After engaging the enemy in a fight, Sailor V was instructed by Artemis to use her compact to reveal his true form and defeat him. Sailor V cast Crescent Beam with her compact, destroying Narkissos and returning the hypnotized young girls to normal.

When she performed this attack in the Codename: Sailor V manga, Sailor V held her compact to face her enemy, letting its mirrors reflect the enemy's true form, then shouted the words "Crescent Beam." A flash of light would then emit from the compact, killing or wounding her enemy. In some cases she would also wave the compact in an arc above her head while performing the attack.

Crescent Beam was never used in the main Sailor Moon manga.

Musicals[edit]

Sailor Venus used this attack often in the musicals, and there performed it in a similar fashion to the attack sequence in the anime. She raised her finger in the air, then pointed it toward her target to release the attack.

Video Games[edit]

Crescent Beam appeared in many Sailor Moon video games, including Sailor Moon (Super Famicom), Sailor Moon (Mega Drive), Sailor Moon S (3DO), Sailor Moon S: Jougai Rantou!? Shuyaku Soudatsusen, Sailor Moon SuperS - Various Emotion (Sega Saturn), Sailor Moon SuperS: Shin Shuyaku Soudatsusen (Playstation), Sailor Moon: Another Story (Super Famicom), and the Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon arcade game. Since all of these games were based on the Sailor Moon anime and manga series, their renditions of Crescent Beam were based on the anime rather than the Codename: Sailor V manga.

In Sailor Moon: Another Story, Crescent Beam was referred to as Sailor Venus' "Holy Light," a power capable of causing earthquakes. However, it was said not to have originally been meant for destruction; in that game she used it to restore the people of Rias Village who had been turned to stone.
