Here's an extract from a scheduling sheet I received from one of the crew from Optimum. "Nehelenia" is the correct spelling they decided to use, and she was voiced by Kate Trotter. The WikiMoon:A guide to common character names lists her as Nehellenia, so that's why it's the standard.--Sakky 20:55, 16 November 2006 (MST)

Mythology

AFAIK, her being named after the goddess is a theory, and can't be presented as an actual fact unless Naoko says so... Kerochan no Miko 11:37, 1 December 2006 (MST)

That's like saying Artemis being named after the goddess Artemis is a theory right? I mean, the katakana can approximate a word that is known to be one of the alternate spellings of Nehalennia. And both are link to Dead or Nether Moon. It seems pretty iron clad to me. --GracieLizzie 16:09, 1 December 2006 (MST)
While I get your point, GracieLizzie, it doesn't quite apply. ^^;; Minako explains the Artemis-goddess connection in volume 2 (IE, chapter 2) of Sailor V. - Sailor Biccy 17:29, 1 December 2006 (MST)
Exactly. And also, Artemis, Diana, Endymion, stuff like that, are all very obvious, as they're fairly common myths. But making the connection between 女王ネヘレニア and some obscure sea-goddess, that's a bit more of a stretch. Thus far the only one I know of who's made it is Ian, and while it's very good, he's not always perfect. Kerochan no Miko 22:38, 1 December 2006 (MST)
But ネヘレニア is how one of the spellings of her names is written Japanese. Okay I'll concede she is obscure but she has been mentioned in some Japanese reference books. I don't mind mentioning it is a theory I suppose but I just think it is a strong one and as is stronger than the Nephrite or Nepheline ones if you ask me. --GracieLizzie 05:26, 2 December 2006 (MST)
I don't have a problem mentioning it on the page, because I think it's a perfectly reasonable theory; I just don't think it should be stated definitively as "Nehellenia was named after this goddess". Kerochan no Miko 07:26, 2 December 2006 (MST)
Okie-dokie, I've plopped the phrase "It has been theorized" at the beginning of this sentence. Should we mention the Nephrite & Nepheline theories? Personally I think they are a kind of shaky theories but we probably aught to add them anyway. --GracieLizzie 14:54, 2 December 2006 (MST)
I'm not familiar with them, what are they? Kerochan no Miko 15:45, 2 December 2006 (MST)
As Ian points out in the article some people think her name is based on one (or both) of these two minerals, however the katakana don't really imply as such if you look at them (ネフライト- Nefuraito) and (ネフェリン - Neferin) don't match as closely as ネヘレニア does. But the are believed to be the basis of her name by some. --GracieLizzie 04:35, 3 December 2006 (MST)

The Quartet on Earth

I removed the part about Nehellena finding the Quartet on Earth because it was never explicitly stated in the manga that they were there. There was a fairly extensive discussion about this on Genvid a while ago - the only thing that can be proved is that they said they were from the "Amazon jungle" but since they never said this jungle was the same as the one on the Earth, and since in one of the anime media books JunJun said that it was the "jungle of the asteroid belt," the Earth connection can't be stated as fact. Kerochan no Miko 15:09, 30 April 2008 (MST)

You're right, and someone in wikipedia even said the anime stated they were playing in the forest/jungle of Elysion when Nehellenia found them. I added the same parts I added in wikipedia. I made those contributions before our misunderstanding, but they'll be the last I'll use in wikimoon before I learn how to log in in wikipedia. Anyway, they're about Helios telling the girls to find the Golden crystal, because I think it's important to show in the manga he actually doesn't know where the Golden Crystal is (unlike the anime where he had it in his horn all the time), and then that they find it in Tuxedo Mask's body. I think those are important to show in the manga Nehellenia herself doesn't show interest in the Golden Crystal, but the Silver Crystal, while it is the other characters who are preoccupied with the Golden Crystal.CosmicUsagi 16:04, 30 April 2008 (MST)

Joined powers of "Solar System Senshi"?

I think Eternal Sailor Moon defeats Nehellenia in the manga with the joined powers of the Sailor Team, and not the Solar System Senshi. I checked where the link of Solar System Senshi leads, and it leads to a page that says the Solar System Senshi are Sailor Moon, her eight senshi, Chibi Moon and the Sailor Quartet. I think the old term of Sailor Team was better because it says it's made of Sailor Moon, her eight senshi, Chibimoon and ocasionally Tuxedo Mask, and it was these people who helped her defeat Nehellenia (it was the eight senshi, Chibimoon and Tuxedo Mask) and not the Sailor Quartet. (This unsigned comment was left by CosmicUsagi, April 30, 2008)

I really don't care either way which one is used. But please sign your comments. And you don't need to duplicate discussions onto my talk page - in fact, I'd really rather you don't. Kerochan no Miko 17:03, 30 April 2008 (MST)

Trivia edit

Hi, Can I ask why did my contribution to the trivia about the mexican version was deleted? Its something I always noted as interesting even before knowing that in the original version Nehellenia talked like royalty. --Endymx 19:29, 11 November 2009 (MST)

Because it didn't fit with the trivia note it was tacked on to. Note that the original note says that Nehellenia used the pronoun "wareware" which is the equivalent of the royal plural. Saying "she talked like royalty" doesn't really mean anything unless you explain how she talked like royalty. Kerochan no Miko 19:36, 11 November 2009 (MST)
All right, I think I get it, I tried to explaint it in more detail but it was kind of difficult, I'll try again another a time and put the result here so you can tell me your opinion :) --Endymx 16:01, 12 November 2009 (MST)

In the Past?

Did she become locked away by Queen Serenity before Queen Beryl attacked the Moon Kingdom, or after? (This unsigned comment was left by Supermariosailormoon, 29 January 2012)

Nobody knows. Kerochan no Miko 10:46, 29 January 2012 (MST)
Well, In the manga it's clear that it was before, as Serenity was just a baby, but the anime they never stated either way, although it would make more sense that she did it before, because the kingdom was destroyed after Beryl's attack. --Sailorsimon 22:56, 28 February 2012 (MST)

Name Update Discussion

Viz have spelled her name: "Nehalennia" [1]. I've added it to the English Name field. -Corza Moon (talk) 01:26, 3 December 2019 (EST)

I also suggest we drop the second "L" from her name on the article. Do I need to propose a move for a change like that? -Corza Moon (talk) 00:47, 4 December 2019 (EST)
Yes, you have to propose to move the page 1st. --210 (talk) 02:55, 4 December 2019 (EST)
I believe this is one of those places where, no matter how we decide to spell it, there will be a number of reasons to object to that particular choice. It seems to be fandom accepted that the name source is the goddess whose name can be spelled any number of different ways, but most commonly seems to be Nehalennia - which is the official Viz spelling. Do we do that? Or do we go with the Kodansha spelling of Nehelenia, because that basically indicates that we mean the Sailor Moon character and not the mythological figure? Or do we leave it as it is because that's what we've been using for over a decade? There are definitely several arguments here, and they need to be worked out well before a proposal is made for one single option. Kerochan no Miko (talk) 20:09, 4 December 2019 (EST)
Yes, definitely. I'm fine with either Nehalennia or Nehelenia... Do we know if the spelling has changed for the new Eternal Edition manga? -Corza Moon (talk) 01:20, 5 December 2019 (EST)
It isn't to that point yet - I believe she should be in the next volume, which is out in January. Perhaps we should table this discussion until that comes out and we see what they went with? Kerochan no Miko (talk) 02:28, 5 December 2019 (EST)
What I meant in my comment above is that you have to propose a page move before making a change like that on the article - as long as you don't make the change before that, it's up to you whether to propose it or not, & as per Kerochan's info above, you may continue the discussion until a consensus is made before proposing (or hold it for now for upcoming new info, as per Kerochan's last comment). As for the names mentioned above, I don't have a particular preference. --210 (talk) 03:12, 5 December 2019 (EST)
Okay let's revisit it after the Eternal Edition is released. -Corza Moon (talk) 01:10, 6 December 2019 (EST)
Got my copy of the new EE volume and...it's spelled "Nehellenia" now. I think that's an argument for leaving this article as it is. Kerochan no Miko (talk) 19:48, 21 January 2020 (EST)
