Sailor Senshi
Sailor Senshi (セーラー戦士; Sailor Soldier) is a term referring to the main female protagonists of all versions of Sailor Moon. It is often represented in the short form Senshi.
In official merchandise relating to the anime and manga, the term "Senshi" was translated as "Soldier," and several songs in the anime and musicals included the term "Sailor Soldier" spoken in English. However, in the live-action series, Sailor Moon Crystal, and the re-releases of the manga and original anime, the same kanji was translated as "Guardian." In the first English dub, they were referred to as the Sailor Scouts. In the Viz English dub, they were referred to as the Sailor Guardians.

Magical Warriors[edit]
Sailor Senshi may be best described as female warriors with magical powers. They were all associated with a specific planet or heavenly body, and their powers often manifested themselves as the ability to manipulate particular elements. Their association with their celestial body was generally manifested in the form of a planetary symbol which appeared on their foreheads at certain points, or appeared as a motif in their costumes or items.
In many cases, Sailor Senshi had a civilian form in which they spent most of their time. By use of an item such as a transformation pen or brooch, they could assume their Sailor Senshi form at will. Although transforming into a Sailor Senshi usually involved nothing more radical than a change of outfit, outside observers were not usually able to recognize even close friends or family members once they had assumed Sailor Senshi form. The mechanism that caused this was not known, although it was just as effective upon Sailor Senshi themselves as it was upon non-Senshi.

Trivia[edit]
- During the group transformation of the Guardian Senshi in Sailor Moon Cosmos, "Sailor Guardians" spoken in English could be heard as part of the background music.
- In Act 50 of the manga and Sailor Moon Cosmos, Sailor Iron Mouse used the English term "Sailor Soldiers" instead of the usual "Sailor Senshi."
- The English dub of the movie changed it to the usual "Sailor Guardians" used as the translation of "Sailor Senshi" in all dubs provided by Viz Media.
