+ | ===First Dub=== | ||
+ | The first season of Sailor Moon was released directly to VHS in Korea in 1994 by Daewon Broadacasting (대원방송). Unlike the later KBS version, all transformation and attack names in this dub were kept intact, but references to nudity, excessive violence, and Japanese cultural elements were omitted or altered. Some of the episodes that were skipped in the KBS version were included in this dub.

+ | ====Censorship and Changes====
+ | As every episode contained censorship and cuts, this list is not complete, and exists to give a general idea of the censorship in this dub.
+ | |||
+ | * Episodes 30 and 40 were the only ones which were not included in this dub, due to the heavy amount of Japanese elements.
+ | |||
+ | * Japanese words shown on screen were erased, but not replaced with anything else; papers and signs shown on screen were simply left blank.
+ | |||
+ | * The transformation sequences were altered to remove references to nudity, although some episodes still kept the transformstions uncensored.
+ | |||
+ | * Scenes of Hikawa Shrine were mostly cut, or replaced with other shots. The nameplate of the shrine was always altered, so that it would resemble a standing stone instead. All scenes of Rei praying to the fire were cut.
+ | |||
+ | * The Japanese writing that was originally on Rei's ofuda was altered.
+ | |||
+ | * The dub featured no opening theme song, and the episodes began with the episode preview instead. The ending theme song was an instrumental version of "Heart Moving".
+ | |||
+ | * Episode titles and the eyecatch were translated and localized.
+ | |||
+ | * Umino's school uniform, as well as the uniforms of all the other male students, was digitally drawn over to match with the Korean male uniform.
+ | |||
+ | * Umino flipping Haruna's skirt in episode 2 was cut.
+ | |||
+ | * All scenes of the girls talking about their crushes in episode 45 were cut.
+ | |||
+ | * Usagi remembering her friends' sacrifices in episode 46 was cut.
+ | |||
+ | * All insert songs were removed without any replacement.

In December 2020, the streaming service Laftel started rebroadcasting the complete dub with remastered footage, with five episodes added every Wednesday at 12:00 am. |
====Censorship and Changes==== | ====Censorship and Changes====
− | + | As every episode contained censorship and cuts, this list is not complete, and exists to give a general idea of the censorship in this dub. In the version shown on Laftel's streaming service, most of the visual changes were reverted, but the dialogue used was the same. Many scenes were restored without any spoken dialogue, only music and sound effects.

+ | |} | ||
+ | |||
+ | * The dub had two opening sequences, both of them accompanied by a Korean-translated version of "Moonlight Densetsu" called "달빛의 전설" (Moonlight Legend). The first one, used for the broadcast of the first season, was a modified version of the first Japanese opening sequence, replacing certain scenes with scenes from the episodes in that season. The second, used from Sailor Moon R onwards, was a modified version of the first opening sequence of the second season, which also included scenes from Moon Crystal Power, Make Up and the eyecatches of the season. The ending sequence was a constant shortened version of the opening, with the addition of the dubbing credits as subtitles.
+ | |||
+ | * Due to South Korea's ban on broadcasting Japanese culture at the time, all Japanese cultural references, including names and attacks, were removed from the Korean version. All scenes showing the Hikawa Shrine were cut, and all episodes with a significant amount of time spent there were omitted from the dub. When Rei referred to the "shrine" in the original version Vicky instead called it a "cathedral." The setting of the show was changed to Seoul, as well. Most of the on screen edits were reused from the first season of the Daewon dub.
− | * | + | * After Sailor Moon S finished airing, the show went on hiatus for a short period of time because the channel thought SuperS was unsuitable content for younger viewers. After receiving many complaints about this decision, however, they aired the season with the Amazon Trio arc removed, which required editing some footage into the remaining episodes. |
− | * | + | * The ages of Sera, Yuri, Vicky, Lita, Mina, and their friends in school were changed from 14 to 17, so they were high school students in the first season. Their admission to Juuban Municipal High School later in the series was changed to have them transfer to another high school. |
− | * | + | * Japanese words shown on screen were erased, but not replaced with anything else; papers and signs shown on screen were simply left blank, as in the first dub. |
− | * The Three Lights were changed to be female. | + | * Some transformation sequences were altered to use footage from previously used transformation sequences and the first opening of the R season, and scenes with nudity were removed. |
+ | |||
+ | * All scenes of Rei singing in episode 54 were removed completely; the Laftel version restored the scene of her singing "Eien no Melody," but only included an instrumental version of the song. In the same episode, Sarah, Lita, and Mina trying on traditional Japanese costumes was censored by adding a blur effect on their costumes.
+ | |||
+ | * Due to episodes 103 and 104 being skipped, Sailor Chibi Moon's arrival was moved to episode 105.
+ | |||
+ | * The Three Lights were changed to be female, and references to Shaqui's love for Sera were removed completely.
* Zoisite remained male, but all the romance scenes with Kunzite were removed completely. | * Zoisite remained male, but all the romance scenes with Kunzite were removed completely.
− | * | + | * The Sailor Starlights' and Amazoness Quartet's outfits were edited to avoid showing their bodies. |
− | * | + | * Any lines that referred to the relationship of Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune were changed. |
− | * In episode 200, | + | * In episode 200, Sera was edited to look like she was wearing a white bodysuit. In the Laftel version, she was obscured by white light. |

− | * | + | * Most insert songs were replaced with the Korean theme song, but "Nagareboshi He" and "Todokanu Omoi: My Friend's Love" were translated and dubbed in Korean, and were sung by Su-kyeong Kim (김수경), Nam-hui Yu (유남희), and Seon Lee (이선), the voice actresses of Shaqui, Didi, and Eva. "Route Venus" was also dubbed in Korean and was sung by Il-ok Mun (문일옥), Mina's voice actress in the dub. |

− | === | + | ====Censorship and Changes==== |
− | + | * The opening sequence changed every season to match with the original one of the season, but the logo was always localized in Korean. There were some minor changes in the opening sequences, mostly to avoid showing Japanese text. The lyrics of the theme song were the same as in the opening song of the KBS dub, but it had different singers. A new version of the song was used in seasons three and four, though it was largely identical to the one used in the first two seasons. The Korean theme song was replaced by "Sailor Star Song" with Korean subtitles for the fifth season. The movies retained the original opening theme songs, though they included the localized Korean logo and Korean subtitles.
+ | |||
+ | * The ending sequences for the first four seasons were accompanied by the Korean theme song, but it was replaced by "Kaze mo Sora mo Kitto..." with Korean subtitles in the fifth season. For the first season, the footage used was the same as in the original opening sequence, but for the second and third season it played with footage originally used in "Otome no Policy," while footage originally used for "Watashi-tachi ni Naritakute" was used for all episodes in the fourth season. The fifth season used the footage originally used for "Kaze mo Sora mo Kitto...". The movies retained the original ending theme songs, though they included the localized Korean logo, and had Korean subtitles and dubbing credits shown as subtitles.
+ | |||
+ | * This dub retained the Korean civilian names and most attack names from the KBS dub, but did not include the same changes. Japanese cultural references and most of the writing were kept, but some episodes had the writing replaced with Korean text, especially in the last three seasons.
+ | |||
+ | * All of the eyecatches were localized.
+ | |||
+ | * Transformation sequences were originally uncensored, but beginning with episode 100, all Senshi transformations except for Sailor Moon's were cut to remove nudity.
+ | |||
+ | * Fisheye's gender was changed to female, although the scene where she kissed Leon was omitted from the dub.
+ | |||
+ | * In episode 151, clothing was drawn over Sailor Mercury to cover her body.
+ | |||
+ | * The Three Lights were not women as in the KBS dub, but lines which referred to them as male were cut along with some scenes. Their transformation sequences were partly censored to avoid showing nudity.
+ | |||
+ | * Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune's relationship also remained unchanged in the dub.
− | + | * In episode 200, Sailor Moon's body was hidden with white light.
− | + | * Most of the original songs were dubbed into Korean, including "Moonlight Densetsu" and insert songs. "Anata no Sei Janai and "Ai no Senshi" were both sung by Chae Minji (채민지). "Eien no Melody" was sung by Yu-mi Jeong (정유미), Vicky's voice actress in the dub; "Onaji Namida wo Wakeatte" was sung by Seong-yeon Kim (김성연), Yuri's voice actress in the dub; "Azusa Nigou" was sung by Hye-seong Kim (김혜성), Artemis' second voice actor in the dub; "Watashi-tachi ni Naritakute," "Sailor Team no Theme," and "Route Venus" were sung by Ha-yeong Kim (김하영), Mina's voice actress in the dub; and "Todokanu Omoi: My Friend's Love" and "Nagareboshi He" were sung by Saeah Lee (이새아), Harim Song (송하림), and Gyumi Kwak (곽규미), the voice actresses of Shaqui, Didi, and Eva.

Unlike the previous Korean adaptations, the original character names were used.

− | There were | + | There were multiple versions of the manga translated into Korean. |
+ | |||
+ | The first was produced by Touch Comics (터치 코믹스) and released under the name "Girl Warrior Sailor Moon" (소녀전사 세일러문) between October 1993 and September 1995, and is now out of print. The second, produced by Issue Comics (이슈 코믹스), was published under the name "Lunar Fairy Sailor Moon" (달의 요정 세일러문) between 1997 and 1999, and is still available. In 2019, Kodansha released a new Korean translation of the manga in e-book format under the name "Beautiful Girl Warrior Sailor Moon" (미소녀 전사 세일러 문), with a translation by Eun-Byeol Ahn (안은별). In 2020, it was announced that the kanzenban (完全版) version would be published by Minumsa Semicolon (민음사 세미콜론) under the name "Beautiful Girl Warrior Sailor Moon Complete Edition" (미소녀 전사 세일러 문 완전판) beginning in August of the same year, though it was later delayed until September.
+ | |||
+ | Out of all editions published, only the Kodansha and Minumsa Semicolon versions kept the original names for the characters. The initial two adapted the character names from the Korean dubs of the anime.

Anime[edit]
First Dub[edit]
The first season of Sailor Moon was released directly to VHS in Korea in 1994 by Daewon Broadacasting (대원방송). Unlike the later KBS version, all transformation and attack names in this dub were kept intact, but references to nudity, excessive violence, and Japanese cultural elements were omitted or altered. Some of the episodes that were skipped in the KBS version were included in this dub.

Censorship and Changes[edit]
As every episode contained censorship and cuts, this list is not complete, and exists to give a general idea of the censorship in this dub.
- Episodes 30 and 40 were the only ones which were not included in this dub, due to the heavy amount of Japanese elements.
- Japanese words shown on screen were erased, but not replaced with anything else; papers and signs shown on screen were simply left blank.
- The transformation sequences were altered to remove references to nudity, although some episodes still kept the transformstions uncensored.
- Scenes of Hikawa Shrine were mostly cut, or replaced with other shots. The nameplate of the shrine was always altered, so that it would resemble a standing stone instead. All scenes of Rei praying to the fire were cut.
- The Japanese writing that was originally on Rei's ofuda was altered.
- The dub featured no opening theme song, and the episodes began with the episode preview instead. The ending theme song was an instrumental version of "Heart Moving".
- Episode titles and the eyecatch were translated and localized.
- Umino's school uniform, as well as the uniforms of all the other male students, was digitally drawn over to match with the Korean male uniform.
- All scenes of the girls talking about their crushes in episode 45 were cut.
- Usagi remembering her friends' sacrifices in episode 46 was cut.
- All insert songs were removed without any replacement.

KBS Dub[edit]
163 episodes of the anime were broadcast in South Korea on KBS from April 1, 1997 until June 11, 1998. In December 2020, the streaming service Laftel started rebroadcasting the complete dub with remastered footage, with five episodes added every Wednesday at 12:00 am.
Censorship and Changes[edit]
As every episode contained censorship and cuts, this list is not complete, and exists to give a general idea of the censorship in this dub. In the version shown on Laftel's streaming service, most of the visual changes were reverted, but the dialogue used was the same. Many scenes were restored without any spoken dialogue, only music and sound effects.
KBS logo |
- The dub had two opening sequences, both of them accompanied by a Korean-translated version of "Moonlight Densetsu" called "달빛의 전설" (Moonlight Legend).
- Due to South Korea's ban on broadcasting Japanese culture at the time, all Japanese cultural references, including names and attacks, were removed from the Korean version.
- After Sailor Moon S finished airing, the show went on hiatus for a short period of time because the channel thought SuperS was unsuitable content for younger viewers. After receiving many complaints about this decision, however, they aired the season with the Amazon Trio arc removed, which required editing some footage into the remaining episodes.
- The ages of Sera, Yuri, Vicky, Lita, Mina, and their friends in school were changed from 14 to 17, so they were high school students in the first season. Their admission to Juuban Municipal High School later in the series was changed to have them transfer to another high school.
- Japanese words shown on screen were erased, but not replaced with anything else; papers and signs shown on screen were simply left blank, as in the first dub.
- Some transformation sequences were altered to use footage from previously used transformation sequences and the first opening of the R season, and scenes with nudity were removed.
- All scenes of Rei singing in episode 54 were removed completely; the Laftel version restored the scene of her singing "Eien no Melody," but only included an instrumental version of the song. In the same episode, Sarah, Lita, and Mina trying on traditional Japanese costumes was censored by adding a blur effect on their costumes.
- Due to episodes 103 and 104 being skipped, Sailor Chibi Moon's arrival was moved to episode 105.
- The Three Lights were changed to be female, and references to Shaqui's love for Sera were removed completely.
- The Sailor Starlights' and Amazoness Quartet's outfits were edited to avoid showing their bodies.
- Any lines that referred to the relationship of Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune were changed.
- In episode 200, Sera was edited to look like she was wearing a white bodysuit. In the Laftel version, she was obscured by white light.
- Scenes where characters kissed were removed completely.
- Most insert songs were replaced with the Korean theme song, but "Nagareboshi He" and "Todokanu Omoi: My Friend's Love" were translated and dubbed in Korean, and were sung by Su-kyeong Kim (김수경), Nam-hui Yu (유남희), and Seon Lee (이선), the voice actresses of Shaqui, Didi, and Eva. "Route Venus" was also dubbed in Korean and was sung by Il-ok Mun (문일옥), Mina's voice actress in the dub.

Daewon Broadcasting Dub[edit]
On June 3, 2012, a new Korean dub of Sailor Moon produced by Daewon Broadcasting (대원방송) began airing on two channels, CHAMP TV (챔프TV) and ANIONE (애니원). All 200 episodes were broadcast until 2016, as well as the movies and specials. The dub was previously available on JBox's VOD service.
The viewer rating for the dub depended on the season. The first season was rated 7+, Sailor Moon R and Sailor Moon S were both rated 12+, and Sailor Moon SuperS and Sailor Stars were rated 15+.

Censorship and Changes[edit]
- The opening sequence changed every season to match with the original one of the season, but the logo was always localized in Korean.
- The ending sequences for the first four seasons were accompanied by the Korean theme song, but it was replaced by "Kaze mo Sora mo Kitto..." with Korean subtitles in the fifth season.
- This dub retained the Korean civilian names and most attack names from the KBS dub, but did not include the same changes. Japanese cultural references and most of the writing were kept, but some episodes had the writing replaced with Korean text, especially in the last three seasons.
- All of the eyecatches were localized.
- Transformation sequences were originally uncensored, but beginning with episode 100, all Senshi transformations except for Sailor Moon's were cut to remove nudity.
- Fisheye's gender was changed to female, although the scene where she kissed Leon was omitted from the dub.
- In episode 151, clothing was drawn over Sailor Mercury to cover her body.
- The Three Lights were not women as in the KBS dub, but lines which referred to them as male were cut along with some scenes. Their transformation sequences were partly censored to avoid showing nudity.
- Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune's relationship also remained unchanged in the dub.
- In episode 200, Sailor Moon's body was hidden with white light.
- Most of the original songs were dubbed into Korean, including "Moonlight Densetsu" and insert songs.

Crystal[edit]
All three seasons of Sailor Moon Crystal were shown on Tooniverse, in Japanese with Korean subtitles, under the name "Misonyeojeonsa Seileo Mun Crystal" (미소녀전사 세일러문 Crystal; Beautiful Girl Warrior Sailor Moon Crystal). Unlike the previous Korean adaptations, the original character names were used.
Censorship and Changes[edit]
- The opening sequence of the third season altered the part in which Hotaru and Chibiusa appeared nude on screen. Likewise, the scene in which Usagi transformed into Neo-Queen Serenity was also altered.
Manga[edit]
There were multiple versions of the manga translated into Korean.
The first was produced by Touch Comics (터치 코믹스) and released under the name "Girl Warrior Sailor Moon" (소녀전사 세일러문) between October 1993 and September 1995, and is now out of print.
Out of all editions published, only the Kodansha and Minumsa Semicolon versions kept the original names for the characters. The initial two adapted the character names from the Korean dubs of the anime.

Trivia[edit]
- Moon Tiara Stardust was one of the few attacks that did not retain its KBS dub name in the Daewon dub. Despite being called "문 파워 액션" (Moon Power Action) in the KBS dub (the name used for Moon Tiara Action), it was called "문 파워 스타 더스트" (Moon Power Stardust) in the Daewon dub.
