Kunihiko Ikuhara

Ikuhara is seen by many moonies as the definitive Sailor Moon director, due to his flair in depicting drama in Sailor Moon. There are some who think he even elevates the series from being just a kid's show with the way he creates a dark atmosphere. The episodes which best exemplify this are Usagi's Everlasting Wish! A New Reincarnation and Death of Uranus and Neptune? Talismans Appear. Sailor Moon SuperS also marks Ikuhara's growing fascination with myths and fairytales.[1]

His offbeat sense of humour is also noteworthy and episodes like Loved and Chased! Luna's Worst Day Ever seem to be the starting point for his zanier work "Shoujo Kakumei Utena".

The series which many believe to be his defining or signature work is Shoujo Kakumei Utena, wherein he explores themes he couldn't get away with in Sailor Moon.
