Elza Gray was a character who appeared in the Sailor Moon anime. She was most notable for bringing Haruka Tenou and Michiru Kaiou together for the first time.
Elza was a talented runner, and regularly competed for her junior high school at athletic meets. She encountered Haruka at the competitions, and she proved to be the only competitor Elza was never able to beat. The two of them remained friendly, however, and Elza eventually brought her friend Michiru to meet Haruka.
Elza eventually moved on to Shirakaba High School, where she continued to be a respected athlete, although she regretted the fact that she had never managed to beat Haruka before she stopped competing. One weekend, while training in the school grounds, she encountered Usagi Tsukino and her friends, who were visiting the school. After Elza observed that Makoto Kino and Minako Aino had the muscle tone necessary to become track athletes, she and the girls went their separate ways, but moments later she was confronted by Eudial. Elza was able to dodge the first shot from Eudial's Capture Gun, but on the second attempt her Pure Heart Crystal was removed.
The Sailor Team noticed what was going on, as did Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune. A battle ensued, and after realizing that Elza's Pure Heart was not a talisman, Sailor Uranus returned it to her. Elza subsequently recovered, not realizing the part her old friends had played in her rescue.
