Sailor Moon Cosmos was a two-part movie that covered the Stars arc in the continuity of the Sailor Moon Crystal series, directly following Sailor Moon Eternal.

The two movies aired in theaters in Japan in June of 2023, and both parts were released on Netflix in the rest of the world on August 22 of the following year.

The ending theme song for both movies was "Tsuki no Hana," while the opening theme of the first movie was a cover of "Moonlight Densetsu" performed by the voice actresses of the five Inner Senshi, which also served as the second ending theme of the second part, and the opening theme of the second movie was a cover of "Sailor Star Song" performed by the voice actresses of Sailor Kakyuu and the Sailor Starlights. The insert song "Nagareboshi He" sung by the Three Lights played in the first part, and "Happy Marriage Song" played as an insert song during Usagi and Mamoru's wedding at the end of the second part.

Trivia

  • The terms "Star Seed" and "Stars of Darkness" were introduced.
  • This was the only installment of Crystal to feature Tomoya Takahashi as its director.
  • In the previous movie, Princess Serenity's hair was white, but in this one, it was blonde like in the first three seasons of the series. Similarly, Neo-Queen Serenity's hair was blonde in most of the third season and Sailor Moon Eternal, but here, it was white again like in the second season.
  • Like the previous movie, honorifics were included in the dialogue of the movie's English dub.
  • Also in the English dub, Seiya told Usagi that Galaxia attacked the Three Lights' princess on their planet and that "she" was destroyed, implying that Kakyu was dead, which contradicted her appearance later on in the movie. Sailor Pluto stated that Shadow Galactica's soldiers came from all over the universe, instead of just the Milky Way like in the original Japanese version. Yaten calling Chibi Chibi "Chibikoro" (ちびコロ) was changed to "Chibi Wibi."
  • In the German dub of the previous four arcs of the series, all of the crystals' names were translated literally, regardless of whether they were Japanese or English in the original. In these movies, while the Silver Crystal/Silver Moon Crystal, Golden Crystal, Pink Moon Crystal, Lazurite Crystal, and Cosmos Crystal were still translated, the terms "Star Seed," "Sailor Crystal," and "Garden Crystal" were left in English. Like the previous movie, honorifics were included in the dialogue, but the transformations and attacks were left in English again like in the first three seasons. Also in the movie dub, Yaten calling Chibi Chibi "Chibikoro" was changed to "Mini Chibi."
