The Cutie Moon Rod or Moon Rod (ムーン・ロッド) was the weapon used by Sailor Moon to perform the Moon Princess Halation attack, and was once the scepter of Queen Serenity. In the anime, it was given to her by Queen Serenity in the second season, while in the manga and Sailor Moon Crystal, it appeared when Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask combined their powers in the Black Moon arc.

The Rod was pink with three gold stars, a red jewel at the bottom, and gold wings. It was topped with a red sphere inside a gold crescent moon, above which sat a tiny crown.

Anime[edit]

In the anime, the Cutie Moon Rod made its last appearance in the first episode of Sailor Moon S, when Mikuji knocked it out of Sailor Moon's hands after she unsuccessfully tried to use Moon Princess Halation on the Daimon. The fate of the Rod after that is unknown, as it was never shown or mentioned again. In episode 91, she received a new weapon: the Spiral Heart Moon Rod.

Manga[edit]

In the manga, Neo-Queen Serenity gave her Moon Rod to Sailor Chibi Moon during the final battle with Death Phantom, so that she could join and fight alongside Sailor Moon. The two Rods shattered after their combined power destroyed Death Phantom.

Trivia[edit]

  • A toy replica was released in North America by Irwin. Two AA batteries were included, and when a "secret" button was pressed, the toy would light up and play the music from the Moon Scepter Elimination attack.
  • In ADV's DVD box set of the anime, the Cutie Moon Rod was still referred to as the "Moon Scepter" in the subtitles.
