Akai was a live-action-only character who appeared in Act Zero as a policeman at a substation in Azabu-Juuban.
He had anger management problems and took pills called "Amitan 2000" to control his temper. The pills were a reference to Ami Mizuno ("Ami-tan" (亜美たん) is a cute way of saying "Ami-chan" (亜美ちゃん)), and like her cookies, he called them "nasty" over and over again while still eating them.

- Akai was played by Hiroyuki Matsumoto, who also played Nephrite in the regular TV series. All four of the actors who played the Shitennou had cameo roles as police officers in Act Zero.
- Akai's name as written meant "red well," pronounced the same as the word for "red" (赤い).
